Structural Assessment and Repair of Thermally Damaged Concrete Foundation

Thermal analysis was conducted to evaluate the effect of thermally induced fatigue on the concrete integrity of a cylindrical concrete foundation for a Coker structure. Advanced FE analysis and analytical models were developed, calibrated with field measurements, and used to examine the effect of thermal load on concrete deterioration. The models were also used to size and optimize the installation of insulation on the inner side of the Coker to mitigate the thermal induced damage.
